Who We Are

David

David was raised in Charlotte, NC, at a time when the local sports scene was exploding. From playing various sports through high school and being immersed in a sports-rich culture of collegiate teams and professional franchises within the Carolinas, it didn’t take long to foster a love and appreciation of the hometown teams and athletics as a whole. His family has been Carolina Panther PSL holders since the inception of the franchise.

David has earned a BS Kinesiology and MS Sport Management. He works in the higher education field in academic/student services and teaches undergraduate sport management courses. He has previously coached high school Varsity Football and Varsity Track & Field, served as a Director of Social Media for a team in the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL), and assisted in Video and Football Operations for a FCS football team.

You will find David supporting his hometown Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Hornets. His collegiate loyalties lay with the UNC Tarheels and Liberty Flames while also rooting for The Ohio St. Buckeye’s football team. Being a Charlotte guy, Hendrick Motorsports fits right in on Sundays and like most people whose golf game is severely lacking, you can find him watching PGA tournaments. He is also the highly questionable, yet undisputed putt-putt champion of the group.

Jon

Growing up with the Sports Talk Garage guys in Charlotte, NC, I was immersed in ACC country and NASCAR which shaped my love of college sports and racing as a whole. With the Tar-Heels just up the road, our closest MLB team the Atlanta Braves in the mist of their postseason streak, the Charlotte Hornets becoming a national name, and Dale Earnhardt Sr. in his prime, life was good for a sports fan. I was blessed with some athletic abilities which allowed me to play soccer, baseball, and football until I suffered a brutal sports injury that ended my competitive playing days.

In the late 90’s, I started visiting family in Chicago which led to my love of all things Chicago sports (minus the Cubs). Now many years later, I call Chicago home, and I’m blessed to live in a passionate sports town.

I am a life long supporter of Formula One racing, of which I co-host a podcast on called the Out Lap F1 Podcast. I am also a die-hard fan of the Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, White Sox, and Bulls (yes I enjoy self punishment for those last two); along with UNC and the Tottenham Spurs.

Matt

Matt grew up with Chris, David, and Jon in Charlotte, NC. He grew up in sports playing whatever sport he got invited to. He varsity lettered in football, basketball, and track & field. This propelled his collegiate football career for 5 years as an offensive and defensive lineman as well as a 2 year stint in collegiate track & field in both Division II and NAIA settings.

At this point, Matt is the entrepreneur of the group with a background in business management, corporate finance, and personal finance. He has coached at the Jr. High, JV, and Varsity levels in football and track & field in NC and OH. Now he is coaching the local public school Jr. High team as a line coach and D Coordinator. He enjoys giving back to the community by coaching and teaching kids life lessons through sports.

Matt follows most current sports events, but his passions lie in college football through his Alma Mater, his love of Ohio St. and Duke, as well as the Carolina Panthers. He follows college basketball with the ACC, but he’s a big Duke Blue Devil fan! He’s also a race fan of NASCAR, F1, and Indycar (you may catch him at dirt track races too from time to time). Currently Matt enjoys playing pick-up and league basketball, golfing, and teasing David because he thinks he’s the putt-putt champ.

Chris

You probably won’t hear much from me because the guys keep me locked up in the back of the studio working most of the time, but occasionally they do let me out to eat. It’s OK though, I prefer to be behind the scenes working on the website and giving feedback on the podcast.

I’m a Charlotte homer (born, raised and deeply rooted), so of course I’m a big Carolina Panthers fan and staunch defender of Cam Newton’s right to dress like a woman (on most occasions). Also currently in a long-term abusive relationship with the Hornets, but maybe this is the year I finally break up, maybe.

Despite being a Charlotte grad, my college allegiances are split between the UNC Tarheels and USC Gamecocks. Naturally that also means I hate all things Duke and Clemson.

And a few sports surprises: I’m Dale Jr’s 4th cousin, so I guess you could say my love for NASCAR runs through my veins. And like most sane people, I find baseball boring, but come late summer you can usually find me jumping on the Red Sox bandwagon.

This podcast is an escape from my day to day work in finance. It’s an avenue to create something with my lifelong friends talking about the thing that’s always bound us together… our love of sports.
